My Scottish Coat of Arms
This was granted to me by the Lord Lyon King of Arms in Edinburgh on 25 Sepember 1999.
"Vert a saltire couped argent between a cannon Or in chief two bezants in the flanks and a stag's head cabossed Or in base. Above the shield is placed an Helm befitting his degree with a mantling vert doubled argent and on a wreath of the liveries is set for crest an antique mortar proper and in an escrol over the same this motto WITH FORTITUDE"
On the shield, the cannon represents my father's service as a Sergeant in a mortar platoon and my own service in the RAOC. The two cannon balls in the flanks represent my own RAOC service. The stag's head in the base is from the Arms of the family of my mother's maiden name, Staveley. The crest of an antique mortar is for the military service connections. The saltire is "couped" (the edges are shortened) as I was not born in Scotland.
The motto includes the word "Fortitude" which is taken from the old Coat of Arms of Stockton on Tees Borough Council, the name of the Sea Cadet Corps training ship I commanded and from the Arms of my Clan Chief.

My Crest
This is my crest badge, taken from the Coat of Arms, and includes a single feather, denoting that my Arms are Scottish and personal to me. This is the badge I wear on my Balmoral bonnet, in silver, and on appropriate opccasions with a single eagle feather.
